TriLite and Dispelix partner on ultra-compact projection display for AR glasses
TriLite, developer of the world’s smallest projection display, and Dispelix, the leader in see-through waveguide displays for augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) wearables, announce that they are working together to create an ultra-compact display system for AR smart glasses. The system combines TriLite’s Trixel 3® laser beam scanner (LBS) with Dispelix’s advanced waveguides.
Trixel 3 is the world’s smallest LBS projector. With a volume of less than 1 cm3 and ultra-light weight of 1.5 grams, the tiny module enables comfortable long-term wear. It does not require any additional relay optics between the LBS projector and the waveguide, which typically doubles the size of the system.
The combined system form factor with Dispelix’s ultra-thin waveguide is one of the most compact ever achieved – meaning that AR will be possible in every pair of glasses, regardless of size or style.
Peter Weigand, CEO at TriLite: “Dispelix’s optimized waveguides are the best in the industry, and our collaboration will result in some of the thinnest, lightest, and highest-performing AR consumer devices on the market.”
Josh Littlefield, CRO at Dispelix: “Dispelix is excited to be working with TriLite as its Trixel 3 laser beam scanner is truly a marvel of engineering. Trixel 3 deserves an equally innovative waveguide, and we are proud that TriLite sees us as their preferred waveguide partner.”
In addition to the system’s extremely compact size, another benefit of the collaboration is that TriLite’s high-brightness LBS supports the large eyebox of Dispelix's waveguides. This projection system can generate the high brightness required even for extreme outdoor usage, for example, for alpine skiing glasses. The large eyebox eliminates the need for custom adjustment and fitting of AR glasses, ensuring a true, crisp image is achieved regardless of who is wearing the glasses.
TriLite designs and builds the world's smallest projection displays and ensures that everyone can enjoy augmented vision as lightweight as the eyewear of today. TriLite's display solutions are based on proprietary, multi-parameter algorithms and deploy advanced machine learning algorithms to generate laser beam scanning devices with unprecedented size, weight, and image quality. An outstanding team of multidisciplinary researchers and manufacturing experts stands behind TriLite's multiple-patented technology. TriLite enables its customers to accelerate the availability of leading-edge display solutions for mass market augmented reality applications.
